Hi all does anyone have a problem with there Genuine K topbox rattling around while on the move, if so & you have recified the prob could you let me know what you did. Also does K sell backrests or could someone point me in the right direction to obtain one Regards jim

Sorry i have the 08 model the lugs at the front of the topbox appear to be very loose on inspection

I don't know who has a Kawasaki one, most of us went with alternatives.

I have a genuine top box on my 08 1400. While it doesn't rattle around it does flex and shake. The plastic mounting plate appears to flex fairly badly. I was planning to machine one up out of aluminium to see if that helps. Although the base of the box flexes a bit as well. I'm more worried about something breaking with my wife leaning on it. Hate to loose the box it cost me a fortune!

Jim,
I use a Givi V46 but the plastic Kwaka back plate is about useful as a one legged arse kicker. I replaced mine with a piece of alloy plate which seems to have stopped it moving around. If you have a look at Givi accessories they make a back rest and they also make a good top rack.

I was wondering where to get a back rest.For the money you think the Kwaka unit would come with one.

Hi Johnno,

Big K does have a backrest listed as an option for '09.

I can't for the life of me remember the price but it shouldn't be too hard to track down.

I did find this http://www.jh-moto.cz/katalogy/prislus_kawasaki.pdf, it'll give you a look at the back rest (and other options).
It doesn't give you the part number. I did have the part number for it around somewhere though if I find it I'll make sure that I post it.

The local engineer here (who is a mate) is going to look at my mount and see how much he could make one out of alloy for. Haven't caught up with him yet but soon. My RJays moves a bit, particularly when getting up in speed, but no sign of mount failure yet. Yep, I know. It will come without warning.

Hey Rossco if you dont mind i would like to put my hand up for a plate as well as this plastic plate is driving me crazy not to mention my passenger who comments on its vibration after riding jim

Re the back rest, I found this on the Kawasaki web site,
but not so sure that the top box should be used as a back rest?

I finally dropped in to see the bloke about the back mounting bracket. He is sending it to some company in Bendigo (the plastic one off my bike) to get a quote. I don't know what metal etc it will be made of yet was assured that it would be designed to last. No idea of $ either but the first one is the expensive one to set up then cheaper by the unit once they are in the company's computer. Apparently the company specializes in big products and our units would be from off cuts to keep down the cost but no idea yet of cost.

I ended up having some made out of stainless steel that will be here on Friday (tomorrow) or early next week. The company needed to make a few to spread the cost as setting up for just a couple would have made them dear. When they arrive, I'll post some pics and a cost if anyone is interested. I will post when they arrive.
