Buckled/Bent Plastic |
Lead | |

I am sure I saw a comment from someone here about the black upper plastic cover on either side of the fairing buckling. Mine has justed started to buckle,
worse on the left side than the right. Has a definite bulge in it so it is no longer fitting smooth and flush on top of the silver fairing pieces running
either side of the tank. Anyone else had the same problem to date? If so what did you do about it. Have a couple of minor things the dealer is looking into now
so this may just go on the list too!
If it was easy everyone would be doing it!

Hi armybguide. If you look at the end furtherest from the front of the bike, where it is secured with one alan bolt. The buckle appears to be lifting the
plastic off of the top of the silver plastic running along the front of the tank.

Well I sent a couple of pics of the buckled panels to Bolton's in Adelaide and have been informed they will be replaced. Be interesting to see if the new
panels suffer the same problem.

Well I bent and buckled quite a bit of my plastic and other bits on Sunday arvo when I had a big off. Paul (hxr400) and I were off to Shark Bay to try our new
camping gear. We only got about 100k from home when the cord I'd tied the gear on the rack with came loose or broke at 110kpm. The gear slipped over the
back, got picked up by the tyre and wrapped round the front of the swingarm, causing the wheel to lock up.
I fish-tailed down the road for about 50m before falling on the left side,
sliding on my back for a bit and doing a few tumbles. I consider myself lucky to have escaped with just a broken left leg (tib & fib) and some minor
grazes. Paul was about 100m behind me when he saw things coming loose. Just as he came up beside me, all hell broke loose. The Northamptom ambulance carted
me away a bit later and my other 2 sons came with a trailer to get the bike. They say it looks good from the right, but I now have a plate and 8 screws
holding my leg together and three months off work to contemplate life. I'll now be able to see how good Shannons insurance really is. Oh well, it could
have been MUCH worse. The moral of the story is, don't use cheap
shit lying aroung your garage to tie stuff on ya bike.
My other motorbike is a car with a motorbike engine - 360cc Honda.

Sorry to hear that Freddy and hope you heal quickly. When you get insurance and safety gear, you hope you never need to know how well it works. Glad Paul was
not just behind you when it when pear shaped. All the best with the leg and the 'contemplation' for the next little while. If we see lots of posts from
you, we'll know boredom could be setting in.

Freddy. Glad you're okay. That's the important thing. You might just go "ping!" when you go through airport security though... Hope
you're healing well.

At the time it all seem really terrible. But now I can see Dad came out of it pretty well. It could of been allot worse.
I just hated the sight my dad sliding & tumbeling on the road & his nice bike sliding in accross the road into the gravel..... (Sorry about the thread hi-jacking) Here's some sad photo's.

Best wishes Freddy, get well but relax. Things happen and as long as lessons are learnt, life goes on. I hope in years to come you will have many more stories
to tell over dinner.

Thanks all for your good wishes folks.
It's a wonder Paul didn't post the other 500 pics he has of the spill along with the before and after Xrays of my leg. ..........Maybe I shouldn't have said that - it might give him ideas.

Nah, mine's worse than that cos it's got longitudinal breaks with lots of little loose bits AND it didn't hurt a bit - until they started to put it
back in place on the side of the road. Must get brittle with age I spose.
