At this stage this is just a heads up and more will follow in the next few weeks.
I see this appealing to:
GTR-AUS members
FarRiders
IBA members
All touring riders keen on extending their days ride.
I have an idea to make it an annual event.

Anyone serious about long distance riding or those just keen to see what makes us tick should plan to be at Cooroy Qld on these dates in 2009.

Thnaks for the early advice.
I am planning an overseas trip in '09 and may have to avoid July. Some more hints about activities at Cooroy would assist in finalising my decision. (I was the kid who unwrapped the presents early)

Just to whet the appetite.
FarRide or IBA ride in (do a 1000k FarRide or SS1600K ride to the meet) Guest speakers on long distance riding (One confirmed IBR finisher hope for 2) Give aways and such. General idea is: Friday arrival, sign IBA forms and such as needed. 5pm shut off for the ride in of those doing FarRides/IBA Mingle and talk bikes, set up sleeping arrangements (to be looked into) Meal Saturday, short ride in the hinterland arriving back in the main street at 1pm ? approx Saturday session to start from 2pm with speakers and possibly invited guests in the industry (gear and accessories) Open time for questions and so on. 5:30pm meal and into the evening. (plan is local hall) Sunday head home. I thought of this coming home on Monday so much of it is still in my head but I thought it best to give everyone an early heads up. There will be a cost to cover hall and food etc, expect it to be low somewhere in the $30 bracket at this time dependent on numbers. It will be by registration only.

Tom you may have gathered that what I am doing is what the IBA do for a National Meet, I am doing an Aussie one.
The interest in long distance riding is growing (no idea why LOL) and the fire needs to be fed. |

Will talk to you Tom consider yourself on the speaker list.
When I get it together you might like to let the FJR guys know, I have had a lot to do with BMW Vic and BMW NSW lately so will be extending invites there as well. Just off the phone with John McCrindle two time IBR finisher and FarRider, he is living back in Melb now and will be here and a speaker. |

Spoke to the lovely Liza about this & she's quite keen to attend, just as long as I pick her up after the 1000km mark... so looks like we'll be
there.

Good idea Dave! As a matter of interest, seeing as we had so many FarRiders present at BR, I had the same thoughts (annual meet) on the way home. The issue of
course for us in the West is time & finance. For most of us mere mortals, it would take well over a week to get to Qld & back and the cost of fuel
these days really burns a hole in the wallet! My thoughts were to perhaps (in the future) consider selecting a central Australian venue (Ceduna, Streaky Bay??
(or maybe Kimba which actually advertises itself as being the midpoint of Aus!) or thereabouts) to make it more attainable for all around the country?
Just my 2c worth!

I had the same thoughts Rob but I want it to be a real event not just a meet. Plus (and I will be open about this when I have it together) I am also doing it
as a gathering of riders before I head to the US the following month.
I will not have Roo here as it will already be loaded and on the way. I have had interest in a few areas just today and this will be an EVENT like has not been done before for our type of riding. Its not just a bike meet, its for those doing and those interested in long distance riding or serious touring. I may in fact have a world traveler here. |

OK - now I get the picture!! Will endeavour to be there (assuming we're still living in WA by then as the housing market has plummeted even further here
and we don't have a hope in hell of selling our house for a reasonable price!!). If we have moved to Qld by then, well then I'll DEFINATELY be there!!

Pencil me in Davo, although we may be on a trip OS ourselves then....I hope to be back in time.
Can we plan a rally too?
How about something a little different - a rally that has no set startingplace/time, everyone just has a start witness/fuel receipt, with bonuses all over Aus, and penalties depending on the number of days to get there (Cooroy)? Example, coming via Darwin is worth big points, but balance it out with time penalties for taking more than IBA standard days to get there... Will ponder more, and talk soon

I will be encouraging ride in IBA & FarRides to the event, maybe a "theme" to collecting pictures on the way or something along the lines of the
recent WORD Rally in the US where riders had to spell out words using letters from town signs.
I will come up with something creative, you can bank on that. |

Hmmmm, the last do that Shane went to that had a theme seemed to be all about leather & latex.....
