Posts: 110 (16-Jul-08 9:00 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Travelling to Tottenham as a FarRider means I will be doing the first part of the journey at night This would be the easiest or most time saving, with less traffic route. But The first part seems to be roo country. Recently travelled in 4wd this way and only hit a roo's tail at 110km/h so that means it's "safe" My second route would be this, but the Pacific is no new adventure till I head west, but i THINK it's safer. Will have a set of Hella ff50s and an alert mind, but the second thing doesn't help, or does it? What are your thoughts on travelling at night ? Charlie 1000GTR. The bright light dazzles the hoppers which will make them standup on the road ahead of you or in the case of one roo I come across bounce toward the light. Soft yellow light as in old globes lets the big rabbits cross the road and out of danger without to much trouble. My 2C Cheers Mate Money thats all I need. Posts: 125 (16-Jul-08 4:45 PM) Still Here Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Charlie having done overnight truck driving on both these tracks the coast would be my pick although you can wack a bit of wild life there as well but you can find a few overnights traveling at a fair clip to sit in behind on the worst of it and if you have a UHF they will tell you whats going on and where the roos are if you ask, when you are on the newel you just get use to hiting them and don't take much notice

Last car trip was at about 105 km/h and I was only overtaken by a couple. On the bike returning from Albury I had the fast one you refer to, but he was behind me. I pulled over to let him past cos I think he wanted to look over my shoulder to check my speedo. !!! Charlie 1000GTR. Posts: 50 (17-Jul-08 8:21 AM) Hangs Out Here Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I've not done a lot of night riding but to me it's a matter of adjusting to the conditions, e.g slower speeds when road side vegetation is thick, treelined and close to the road shoulder. As for following trucks etc, I don't follow too close and mantain a safe distance.. The last thing I need is a dead animal, tyre tread, rock etc being thrown up at me suddenly. I think all of them should live within a 10klm radius of Coffs at least that way we know where they are and its better for family reunions. Posts: 134 (18-Jul-08 6:35 AM) Still Here Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hello Charlie Wombats are worse than a lump of concrete they are like a lump of concrete supended 150 mm above the ground, have whacked a couple at low speed even then they do a bit of damage.Doesn't mater if I am down the back I am only going for two reasons I like bikes and they give a lot of the proceeds to United Nations children's fund so a bit of publicity for them and a bit for bikes won't do any harm and after going up the coast today and spending until sunday with the inlaws it will be good to get back in touch with reality. Posts: 6 ( 8-Aug-08 1:18 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hi Charlie, From my experience living in Broken Hill, travelling by day or night presents varying hazards. Roo's being nocturnal can be more of a danger at night but can be equally a pain during the day. You can't pick it and you'll just have to ride to the conditions. A good rule of thumb that I have found is that if there's a lot of road kill 'specially fresh, be warned and be on your guard. Back in '91 travelling from 6pm to approx 1am, the roo's were that thick this side of Dubbo that it was dangerous even at 80kph, road kill everywhere which, presented it's own hazard! So too around the end of May this year, from Wentworth to Coombah just after noon, roo's were in packs of up to a dozen at a time every couple of k's. Plus the goats, sheep, emu's and the odd bird, yeah that was fun. On the recent run to the Border Village and back via Adelaide, approx 3257km's, I didn't see one live roo (or many other critters for that matter) and bugger all road kill. Go figure. So the earliest with wiggle room would be 12:30 in my opinion. It is a good idea though and others have done it that way on previous FarRides. Google says 15 1/2 hrs, that's a moving average of 75.8 Still smoking so will need to stop revive survive every 2 hours. I could probably do better but I got the tires hot last week, but there was peer pressure involved. ps: Dave If I left at 11 am I WOULD meet the reqirements, but I'd just have to fuel up at 11.30. Total distance is 1175. could ride to Maclean and fuel up there and get a receipt , that's 1008 km. Charlie 1000GTR. Bazz Good advice re the road kill. But as you say, you can't pick it. I don't want to have too many hours up my sleeve. Will leave the west for the ride home.
