Welcome Jan and very glad you found us.
I leave the decisions of when and where to my WA team and I expect they will have that together within the next few weeks. My best guess is Sept? but as I say it's their choice. |

Jan, you could always join us for the Border Run in August.

Guys - just a heads-up. Next FarRide will probably only be in November - at this stage, tentatively the
8th - venue still to be determined (suggestions welcome - must have good food and approx 400 - 600k from Perth)

Nooooo!! The WA TT (International Roadracing) 3 day event is on that weekend. Nov 7 - 9.
Maybe FJSteve and I should go for our own long ride on 13 Sept?? |

Further to my previous post - I would like to do the Northampton ride that you chaps recently did. I plan to do it on Sept 13 as I missed it last time. If I
were to do it could I register it as a Farride? I understand I would need the usual evidence, or do I need to complete a formally organised Farride to qualify
as completing one? I will probably do the ride anyway. I wonder would there be any interest in joining me?

The Long Ride | ||

I noticed this http://thelongride.org/ recently and have used the concept to get acceptance from SWMBO to ride to Perth.
(Obviously I would not be following the ride as described as not enough klms per day.) Just need to arrange some annual leave from work. What a pity there is not a West FarRide on the weekend 25-26 October.

I am backtracking after our GTR-AUS meet to do a ride in with The Long Ride group (I did their Darwin ride last year)
Flash, please read the front page on FarRiders.com that will answer your question as the answer is NO |

Good to hear, I just want to encourage riders to increase the size of their playground. When you know you can comfortably ride 1000+ in a day your riding
playground increases and all of a sudden places you had never thought of visiting come into that circle.
Imagine how I feel with Australia as my playground, its quite a nice feeling I can assure you. |

Travel Time | ||

Organising this ride to Northampton. I am curious as to the travel time I should allow. I am based in Joondalup area and going Great Nthn Highway, across to
Moora and up the Midland H'way - about 540km to Northampton. How long should I allow (there may be a group of us lets say 6 -10 bikes). Dunno if 7 hours -
5 am leave is allowing too much time, or is about right?? Planning 2 (short) fuel stops on the way at Moora and Dongara.

I use to ride solo Sydney - Mildura 1000km in around 12 hours. So I would say your probably just allowing just a little to much time. But...the fuel stops
with 10 bikes can blow out if your not careful. 10bikes X 5 minutes is 50 minutes..even 10X3 is 30 minutes. You will need to try and manage the stops, or you
will need the the 7 hours.

flashthebiker wrote: I am in Carramar and did pretty much the same route as you're planning when we did the previous Northampton ride (only difference was I went up Wanneroo Rd & onto Gingin Brook Rd and then across to Midlands Rd via Gingin (this actually gives you a few extra k's so that you can do a straight run home down Brand Hwy) and our second fuel stop was Mingenew) I left at around 4:30am and had plenty of time. We had 4 bikes for most of the way (met up at Mooliabeenee Rd/Midlands Rd) but obviously, the more bikes you have, the longer your stops will be. One important point - if you plan on riding as a group (generally, FarRides are solo or small group rides - meeting only at the venue) - arrange to meet up somewhere but have a leave by time - if one (or more) are late, don't wait indefinately, carry on. They will just have to catch up.

Hi all,
I see the 13th of September being mentioned as a date for the next FarRide. Is this on or is there no official date yet? Flasthebiker I see that you are planning a trip up to Northampton on that weekend. If the Official ride is not going to happen in the next month I would like to join you up north. I have not done a FarRide in OZ but have done a few long rides in the past. On long rides I prefer to stick to posted speeds since this saves a lot of fuel and you don't tire so quickly but ... Then like in your note, will this qualify as an official ride? What proof do we need to have to prove that the distance was done etc. I live in Beeliar about 27 km's south of Perth and looking at the map from my place will give me just around 500km's each way but I'm sure there will be some detours both ways that will increase the distance. Anybody know if the 13th will be official? |
