Few days ago I received the email from the IBA regarding applications for the Rally for August 2009. This has now been posted to the LDriders.com email list and I understand many are sending in applications.
I am unable to (by request of the IBA) post that email but in included an application that needed to be completed and emailed back.
For the 2007 IBR there was somewhere around 2-3000 applications sent in and under 100 starters, that should give you an idea of how hard it is to gain a place.
If and when I am able to I will post how the places are filled but there is a wealth of information available on the IBR site LINK here and start with the 2007 Rally
For now:
I have emailed my application.
I have sat my wife down and explained that if I get selected I have to pay an entry fee of $1800 usd
I have explained to her that it may cost between $12-15,000 for this ride. After she stopped yelling
I have much work to do.
What I have done so far not counting riding brazillions of klms
My 1400GTR was purchased just for this ride, I was happy with the 1000GTR.
I have started setting it up for these mega distances.
I have software programs such as MS Streets & Trips for the US and Mapsource (on its way compliments of a US mate)
I have priced air fares $2500-$3000 return for me only. Bike quote is yet to be sourced.
Heaps to go, its very early days.
I should be able to say I am in or not on or about the 1st April 2008.
I would ask that comments be kept to a min in this topic to allow a quick read by those interested. However I am more than happy (pleased if someone does) to start another topic for questions and such.
Only two Australians have ever competed (and in fact finished in all cases) in the IBR, John Mc (1999 & 2001) and Derrick S (2001). These two have also attended FarRides and will be at Nambucca Heads FarRide #6
