Friday, just after the cricket started, I decided to check the progress on the net of a Davo, a fellow GTR rider, who was from riding Brisbane to Perth. It was reported that his speedo had stopped working, and his Camelbak had sprung a leak. He was due in Broken Hill about 8pm our time. I posted a response on the net, that I could get a GPS, to replace the speedo, and a replacement hydration system to Broken Hill by that time. While gathering the bits I needed together, I received a call from Kristy, his daughter saying he was expecting to be in Broken Hill by 7pm.
After doing the fuelling, and tyre pressure checks, I motored out of Wentworth at 4pm, riding nonstop to Broken Hill. Arriving at the Shell servo on Williams Street at 6pm, I refueled, rang Marlene, and was having a drink when Davo rolled in about 6.20. He had a break for 40 minutes, he left on the next leg to Pt Augusta.
I rode with Davo to Cockburn, about 50km, on the SA border, then returned to Broken Hill, refueled and headed for home at about 8.15pm. The warm evening and after I seen a few roos along the way, a 20 minute break and drink at Coombah was welcome. (Damn it's hard to find were I put my ear plugs in the dark.) I continued on at about 80kph, until I was passed by a mobile home (bus) which I followed to Wentworth travelling at about 90kph. I arrived home at safe, weary and happy around 12.15am.
I tested a couple of different types of ear plugs on the way. I found the moulded type, soft and little more comfortable than the firmer type with flanges, however they seem a little harder to insert. Please note. I do now wear hearing aids except when riding, sleeping and in water, and I have a slightly sore right ear canal. I'd recommend testing a couple of different types.
