I've heard a few tales of top boxes bouncing down the road. I made my own replacement one and incorporated mounting locations for flag poles, antenna or similar. It's solid and I can just about pick up the back of my bike with it. Also for pillion the rigid plate means far greater security for the top box and therefore better comfort as a back rest. The OEM rack caused the top box top shake and jiggle, and safety for pillion was far too important to ignore it and wait for a rack failure.

Cost = $50 for the aluminum and bolts/washers
10hrs total of making and trialling a template, and making the final product.
