Good-oh Ron.

The following nerd-geek stuff is probably in the wrong forum but too bad.image

I don't think that you can get NMEA output from the NUVI. I'm still running a "mouse" style GPS and the tracker to generate the APRS position report as well as the NUVI.

You need the OT2m and the FMI (Fleet Management Interface) cable also available from the Argent Data System website. The FMI cable has a level converter in the cable. I suspect a MAX232 level converter may be able to do the work of the FMI cable but not sure yet. There are 2 different FMI cables, you need the correct one for the Nuvi 300 series, see Argent website, all the detail including the DB9 pinout is there.

FMI is not sold in Oz and the cables can't be sourced here (I think).

Anyhow, did a couple of hundered klicks yesterday to sus out the Nuvi. Quite impressed. I've never used a car GPS before and its actually quite good to have a truly accurate speed measurement and running totals.
The navigation bit was also checked out in Adelaide and thats useful too when you don't know exactly where to go. I've previously pooh poohed these GPS units as just being a bit of gimmick, but have seen the light.image "Halleluja I am saved"image

With the MCX100 control head and the Nuvi all braced back to the bolts that hold the horns on, the vibration was a bit of a problem, everything was jiggling about. Also made up another bracket which braces the steel fairing support behind the headlight back to the steering head, this has firmed up the whole dash assembly. All that sort of work is pretty time consuming, but makes the whole setup a bit more durable I feel.

The bracket looks a lot like this:
