Maybe Varadero miss-understood my point - what he said is quite correct as long as the regulator is functioning correctly. In my case the regulator was not able to function properly due to a poor connection giving the regulator an incorrect reference voltage. The system voltage at the headlamps and probably other components of the system was way in excess of 14.5 V. I am not sure of the actual voltage measured as it was a couple of years ago but I think it was closer to 19V at high revs until the poor connection was rectified and the regulator able to operate correctly .

I still suggest look for a malfunctioning regulator. But of course the cause of regulator malfunction may differ from my case. The most likely cause of excessive lamp failure is over-voltage.

Good luck
