Okay. Some of you know I've been wanting to buy a laptop. Suggestions and advice please? I'll be using primarily for writing. I know Fattymick
would have some tech' advice on this one.

We have been happy with Acer laptops and I would also look at Dell.
Maybe Michael can do you a deal. |

35 Dell in laptop and desk between work and home. Yet to have a problem apart from ageing technology.

I have found the Asus EEE PC 900 great when on the road. With its Solid State Drive, (no moving parts) it can take the bumps in the Top Box. Check it out here

and an Ebay >Link<.
Note that the PC runs Windows XP Home, has a 1Gb Ram and a 30 Gb Hard Drive (not a 12 Gb hard drive as is stated on the above page. Phil

We have an NEC Versa P7200, the third Nec we've had and so far one hard drive died then after I'd got a new one and given the old one to my son to
play with it suddenly decided to work again so now have a back up hard drive. Which my daughter filled up with music and then buggered off to the UK. What is
it with kids and "music" personally never listen to it and never have...can't beat a good book. |

of it. when i go on holidays i wrap my computer up and transport it in my trailer that has no suspension. when the need arises i would buy another acer cheers tim |

I know nothing about them, but one of my collegues sons is an industry geek. What you get is dependent on your circumstances ( a bit obvious)
Mine had to travel overseas, get bumped around, exposure to salt air and extreme temps. He said Lenovo were the toughest and mine has been great. However it's not the fanciest machine. You have to figure out what you really need in a laptop.

Have a Toshiba Tecra, for about 3 years now.
And have had no problems with it, and would defiantly buy another one. David Adelaide. GTR 1000 ---"POSH Bike" |

rusjel wrote:+1 Russell, I.ve had 2 IBM Lenovos in succession - mine however were top of the line and I transport it wrapped in a windcheater in my top box on the GTR. Fantastic laptop.
When was the last time you just got up and went for a drive? Not to anywhere not for anything, just for drive. You see, motorcyclists do it all the time, so why don't human beings? Jeremy Clarkson |

OK....
HP laptops are on the money, price wise at the moment($1600) as to are LG & ASUS. If your a MAC person you cant go past the new AIR Notebook. You want something that is a Core Duo 2GHz and above, this will give you good performance. I won't use a note book that has less than 2GB of RAM for Windows XP Pro and 3GB RAM for Windows Vista( Home Premium or Business). Don't forget to get your copy of Office when you purchase or make sure it comes with the 60day trial of Office 2007 be the end of the 60days you will need to purchase the MLK lic of the version of Office you want. Get it at this stage and save dollars over having to buy at full retail. Michael-Brian Newtron Silver 2008 1400GTR GTR-AUS #181 FarRider # 109 Ulysses #49376 Northam WA |

A lot of information there. Thank you. Never really used a MAC. A bit foreign to me. I've been using Windows since forever. Before that it was
DOS. $*$DIS. Funny what the brain remembers. Anyway. You're all on the money knowing that I want it to take on bike trips. It does need to be tough
and very transportable. I will let you know what I end up buying and once again. Thank you.

Bob. Music is an escape. It's emotional. It's a memory. It's peaceful. It's inspiring. It's noisy. It's disruptive.
It's wonderful. Have you tried listening to Vivaldi? I listen to everything from Clasical to heavy rock. I loooooooove the blues. I also like Glen
Miller and music from the 30's and 40's, but give me Led Zeppelin REALLY loud pretty much any time! Then I can go the whole other extreme and listen
to Enya and Tori Amos. Whatever takes my mood I guess. My Dad has a very particular taste in music and the ONLY pop group he EVER liked was The Seekers. He
just never liked pop bands. His favourite music is The Strauss Waltz and Lord help me...Yodeling!!! He also likes marching band music. God love him! My Dad
is pretty deaf, so I reckon the reason he doesn't like pop or rock music is that he can't actually hear the music. He can only hear a cacophony
of sound.
