Bulkhead fitting fitted yesterday and now need to get the final plumbing done, running out of time as I want the WA trip to be a shakedown for this setup.

Once I got it all apart there was just not enough space, I took the tank and bits to my mates at Speedline Eng. and one of the brothers just said lets just do
it now. So out with punch, air drill, a plastic cup with a taped on handle to put inside to catch the shavings and bobs your uncle......... all done.
I made the bracket and plumbed most of it up just now tonight, tomorrow will get it to John Stamnas and he is doing the braided line from the aux outlet to the fuel tap on the aux tank. John also supplied the braided line in the pic. Then its done for now. I used your fuel tap and bulkhead fitting, found a place at Maroochydore today while I was down for REIQ training called Porter Industrial who had everything else I needed. |

Looking good Davo,
Ah, the excitment at getting a job done for a trip - in your case a BIG trip - must be great! Cheers, Craig

As I have done quite a few big trips its more that I just want to get on the road now when it gets this close.

Just about finished but finished for now. Only thing extra I will do is the overflow, I have left it long and swept from the opposite side to where it exits
for now and swept the line under the tank.

Bloody good job Davo.
Is it painted black or is that a cover over the tank? Cheers, Craig

Its the colour of the plastic, well not plastic but you know what I mean. I posted a link to the site in the first post. They are a cert drag racing tank, foam
filled.
Before the trip it will have a tank cover bag similar to this on it with pockets.

Baz that is all stainless steel braided Goodridge fuel line and I can see no way I could hid it further and be accessible to use the ball valve and quick
release. The whole thing removes by one quick release and 4 allen headed bolts, 5mins.
Legal ? have no idea but I wonder what the police think of 4x4's with plastic jerry cans strapped to their roof racks and on the rear plus on the sides of their trailers. A local cop (who I sponsored) did one of those Simpson postie bike challenges and they fitted an aux tank on the bikes which was a XR Honda tank on the cross bar piece in front of them. Most serious dirt adventure riders fit aux fuel tanks to either the rear or sides, I have seen many sidecars (mainly at Border Run) fitted with aux tanks in the sidecar. So, have no idea but there's lots of ammo should it arise. Its been applauded by US mates and the IBR tech inspector as a top job :) I am happy with that. MTF topic IBA forum topic |

Oh unless you mean the one coming out of the top then under the tank and down ?
That is being rerouted this evening now based on the tech inspectors comments. I left it long like that in case as its hard to add bits on, much easier to cut it off. So it will go out the other side and down the same side as it does now without the under tank loop. |

I think being s/steel the lines they stand out more but as I said, I'm just nit picking.

How its connected to the main TANK is in the pictures Bazz, drilled a hole and fitted a bulkhead fitting that Thommo got for me.
Same as FJR's do, its in the first post.

kwaka wrote:there a legal issues, BUT most of them be in the fine print, and to be honest, it's not worth the worry. If it's a dodgy sort of setup, insurance will morethan likely walk away from you in the event of an accident. i can see no issues with what Davo has, the tank itself is a certified design, albiet race orientated, the mounts and workmanship is of accepted practices and standards, all lines are of high quality and again, meets industry accepted standards. My tank is certified, looks messy (don't ask why) but all the engineering paperwork and certifications are true and correct so insurance should not be an dramas. as Davo mentioned, there are a lot of chook chaser adv riders with all sorts of setups and i know of no dramas as long as common sense has prevailed when setting it up.

You hit the nail on the head talking about insurance though, that industry knows how to put a spanner into everything. No doubt that Davo's and I'd guess most aux tank setups would pass muster. I know if I was to have a similar setup, I'd want it to be mickey mouse too.

Looks great Davo,
Just one thing, the S/Steel sheath on the hoses does not look to be plastic coated. If this is the case, you may like to consider adding some "protection" where the hose touches the seat and the plastic body pieces. The movement of the hose (vibration, wind, bumps, etc) will turn the metal sheath into an effective buzz saw and may damage these areas. As you are heading off to WA soon, some gaffa tape or some old inner tube would be a quick fix.

Dale (Warchild) said the same thing and although in that picture (taken before it I have was completed) it has nothing it now has a couple of strips of duct
tape on the seat edge and the hose at that point and the other side where it touches the side cover is covered with a clear plastic tubing.
That top red circle (nicely done btw) is not like that now as the hose there (overflow) now runs out the other side and down to the rear. Good eyes and appreciated. |
