Riding back from Rockhampton to Adelaide the temperature gauge (from memory) didn't move that much. It stayed just above the cold notch just about the entire trip. The only time I've seen it rise up to 1/4 or 1/3 is in stop-start traffic.
Coming back from the border run, the gauge started to slowly rise to about 1/4 way then drop back to the cool end, then rise again, then drop, then rise etc etc etc - about a 2 - 5 minute turn around for each 'cycle'.
The question is , is this indicative of a water pump problem? or perhaps some blockage in the cooling system?
Your input would be most appreciative.
The bike will be in pieces as from next weekend for new fork springs, seals and sliders, braided lines, cruise control, spots wired in, plugs, spin on oil filter adapter, handlebar grip heaters, new petcock, and sundry other Murph additions for FarRide #8 , so would like to know whether I should add a water pump to the list.
Cheers, Craig

It started doing it on a real fairly hot day (over the west) and we were riding
in town so the fan had come on. It settled down again when we got on the open road but started playing up again on the way back.
The water etc checked out OK and we ran the bike until the fan came on then let
it cool to see the effect on the guage but it was still all over the place so it looked like a sender or guage fault. It got me home Ok(it seemed to work Ok
once I was travelling)
and I rang the local bloke who suggested a bad
earth on the guage or sender or possibly a faulty sender. Will look at sender and coolant change is due so will let you know how it goes. keep
well you've got to haven't you
.
