Thanks guys.

The choice was mine to discontinue the use of Ruku, Kawasaki offered me the use of it for as long as I needed while mine was away. I had just not been made aware of the high excess on the insurance, I can't afford that risk so ended the agreement.

Sorry to hear about the mishap Dave and the fallout re ROKU. Hang in there and before you know it you will be OS and on the bike for plenty long enough. Glad nothing broken and you are in one piece.

I don't know why they don't scrub all new tyres, i get my tyres from two wheel tyres at Blacksoil (west from Brisbane) and they scrub the tyres when they fit them

Sorry to hear about your off Davo, something you don't neeed right now, but thanks for the update and see a Chiropractor if you share my beliefs as they can fix whiplash with a visit or two and avoid later complications .That is the third one now I can take the Dragon out of the cave, with a clear mind when the weather clears a little and this cold gets shaken. So R+R, a few wines , hot baths, and some kayaking I hear you say? Good luck Davo and stay healthy.

I used to fit tyres part time while i was going to uni. We used to give ALL our tyres a quick scrub after ballancing with an air die grinder with a sanding attatchment...just to remove the majority of the mould release compound. Granted we were only a small petrol station with minor mechanical and tyre fitting work on the side. I couldnt imagine the bigger tyre shops doing this, as it does add a bit of time to the tyre fitting process.

That all said, whenever i get new tyres on one...

It is always the way just around the corner. Hope you mend okay and are fit for the big ride in five weeks.
I would guess it was a bit of mould wax and a smooth surface. Main thing is keep smiling.

You say it's only 5wks Davo, but what is your family and butt gonna say with having you off the bike for that long? After being use to you on it and all over the place, it's gonna be a change that may test peoples emotions and nerves

I am glad to hear you are OK. I had a similar (sounds identical) off on my previous GTR, turning right at about 10 kmh. Dropped hard on my RHS. Bus driver coming towards me helped me up! My cause... had just returned from a Nullabor trip towing the trailer and had worn off the tread on BOTH sides of the rear tyre (still had tread on the bottom). I was on the way to the tyre shop to get a new set of tyres (true story). Needless to say I continued on (wounded) to get said tyres...

Bloody hell mate how are you going to stay ride fit for you USA ride with no bike, I have a 93 in the shed I could wack a bit of redgo on for you and a bit of a nock policy if you want, I have been tosing up wether to let the redgo go as I sourt of think I might stick a side car on it.

I will not be attending the Icicle Ride nor the BR09 at this time unless another bike can be sorted.

I have just emailed KMA and canceled our agreement for my use of Ruku as a major part of their sponsorship support.
I am unable to financially accept the risk attached to the agreement given the recent accident and the $1,000 excess. I will find the money this time but am not in a position to accept that ongoing risk financially.

Rob its just a comment the guy at the dealership made and probably regretted saying. I mentioned the D205's were an older tyre and I didn't think they were still about and he mentioned it. Said 218? I think on the wrapping.

Dave, as a matter of interest, when you say "old stock", hopefully that's not more than 4 or 5 years or so else the tyres would be deemed dangerous even when the slippery layer does wear off (rubber gets brittle with age)

If I don't post a lot in the next day or so this is why.

I took Roku (Kawasaki Australia's 1400GTR) down to Maroochydore to Team Moto to get new tyres on this morning. As I was paying for them I asked for the best at the lowest cost. Turned out to be a new but been on the shelf a while (not their fault they were delivered in) set of Dunlop D218 (old D205's I think)

Well at 10am I left their shop, stopped at the lights, turned right and whammo.

Front...
