Likewise Bill - It's a tough area to break into. My last article was accepted before Christmas, but the Bear (Peter Thoeming) made it very clear that he has really long lead times. He's been in touch through the year, but my story may fall off the list if better stuff comes in. Better than Two Wheels though - They never even bother to respond. Have had one article accepted by RoadRider, after a re-sub.
Hasn't been puublished - unlikely now, as it was a couple of years ago.

Heidi - I relive my big trips every time I see a photo or other momento (including some scratches on the bike). It stays with you for a long time. I'm also really looking forward to reading your trip report. If you end up writing a good story and decide that you want to send it to a magazine, (like RoadRider) just remember that they shy away from articles that are too long. WOW Heidi, fantastic effort that.....when you post it up, can we link it and cross post it to the Ironbutt forum in the States? Okay so many of them do massive kilometers, but few would do what you guys did. Nothing like breaking bikes on crap roads while doing 1200 days!!!

Heidi, that doesn't sound stupid at all - the crowds there sometimes bother me too, especially inside (we ended up outside despite the rather ordinary weather that day). I should be there next Monday, depending on work :o)

I KNOW I KNOW! I have to do the damn ride report!! We blogged daily from the road, so I'll pull that into some kind of shape. I'm feeling weird about writing a ride report for three such strong personalities, I'll write it and the other two will yell at me for getting it wrong.

Well done. It was a life-changing experience when I did it in 2006. Makes you realise just how big this country really is when you circumnavigate it on a bike in a short timeframe. Hope you have all the stats logged (hours on bike, fuel used, average speeds, average daily distances etc). I still pull out my map and records and think about doing it again. Once is never enough. Thanks so much for all your advice, it was happily received. We had a top time, managing to do the loop in two weeks. We had tyre troubles, all three Ventura Racks smashed and I tumbled down a hill (respray time). We got stronger the further we went, did 1600kms on one day and average of 1200 per day roughly. Heidi, I didn't realise u weren't sticking to highway1. I've done all that dirt section, albeit a few years ago. Keep in mind that this section will blow ur daily klm quota to bits. The dirt/dust will also tire u out much more quickly and the corrugations will test ur equipment to the max'. Find a happy speed on the corrugations and get on the gas in the heavy bulldust to get the weight off the front end.

Try putting in a call to Wollogorang Station (08) 8975 9944 about fuel. It is 266km from Borroloola and 217 from Burketown. Right on the NT/QLD border.

Be prepared for many kilometers of corrugations.

Time of year will be important. November to April will most likely be too wet and the road will be closed.

Hey Heidi - sounds like a fantastic trip, and I doubt something that has ever been done on a busa!!

Best of luck with it, I think it is doable. Just need to make up some more time on the easy days to cover the reduced speed in the dirty stuff....

Keep us posted - and if you need a hand when down Vic way at all, only need to sing out (I'm Pink Angel's other half)
