What is it?

On my 2003 GTR1000 adjacent to the left-hand carburettor there is a small diameter black rubber coolant tube with a small plastic (either) coolant sight gauge or a coolant filter. On my bike this has become crazed and is weeping slightly - I've wrapped it around with Duct tape, but it obviously needs replacing. Question is that I have no idea what it is, or what it is called.
NB: I do have the workshop manual and it is illustrated in the exploded diagram in the Cooling System...

Upgrading Horn

Simple question from a simple person !!
How do I access the horns, I am changing to an airhorn. Do I remove the dash shroud to get at the wiring, is that the simplest way ?? its a 95 GTR

Cruise Control - what brand?

My recently purchased 2003 GTR1000 has Cruise Control fitted to it. This was excellent on my trip "home" from Brisbane to Broome other than it wouldn't work for the first 10 or so minutes of every morning!!! The green power light would come on but nothing happened when pressing the "Set" button.

There were no instructions or such with it, and I cannot see marking on the unit to indicate the brand, thus making it impossible to check up on.

Tyres (yes, again)

I just arrived home in Broome today after 7 day (4,800km) delivery trip from Brisbane on just aquired 2003 GTR1000. The rear Tyre died after 1,500km - front tyre got me home, but needs replacing now.
In Mount Isa (which is as far as I got on the original) there is a Honda/Suzuki dealer and a Harley dealer - the former couldn't help, but the later (Mount Isa Motorcycles) was fantastic.They had a "150/80 HB 16 D401 ST" Dunlop that has Harley Davidson embossed on the sidewall...

Peg lowering links

Received my peg lowering links and pegs from Murph"s kits today. I didn't receive them until late in the day so after fitting them to the gtr I didnt get time to go for a good run only a short 20 minute ride to test them. But first impressions are great, they felt so comfortable and to add to that I got the gear shift and brake pedals adjusted just right on first try. Very happy boy.

Incorrect speedo reading

I was recently travelling along the Oxley hwy out of Gunnedah and was booked for speeding 10kph over the limit apparently. Anyhow later in the day I went through roadworks up near Guyra and there was an electronic Speed board advising what your speed is. I checked my speedo it was reading just under 60kph and th board indicated 74kph.

Rear tyre "Feathering"

Gidday, I have a Dunlop Sportmax on the rear of the GTR and I have noticed today while cleaning her that the rear tyre is badly "feathered" on the right hand side. Any clues??

Hi All,
well i had a rear tyre fitted on thursday (BT45) to match the new front. Anyway, the mechanic who did it got one of the bushes around backwards, and then overtightened the axle. Well, after 10 km's of riding at 110 on the freeway, the flange on the said bush broke, and the rear wheen ended up hard up against the diff...making all sorts of horrid noises and making lots of metal shavings.

Hi guys

Encountered a problem with starting bike last night. Said machine (95) has not been started for some time although has been on the maintenance battery charger, so plenty of power.

Problem is when ignition key is in on position no juice is getting to the stater motor switch and dash is not lighting up ie no neutral green indicator...

hi everyone,
trailer is coming along well...i decided to bolt the frame together rather than weld it, more on that later...

I'm a tad worried my rear wheel bearings may be on the way out? The bike is fine at speed, but i can occasionally feel a slight clunk every few seconds eminating from the driveline when slowing down at the lights...maybe at 10-15kmh? happnes at odd intervals, and not everytime i slow down? That bloke Steve in Sunny Florida has been playing with his bike again, he has come up with something worth trying.

Steves idea

What you do is get an old piece of foam rubber and jam it in one side of the airbox intake (just forward of the battery).

Then go for a test ride, probably not for everyone, but interesting nevertheless.

Hi team its been quite a while since I posted but here goes.
On the way to Tottenham for the BMWTC rally I lost my lights, horn and instruments about 15k's out of Tottenham normally not a real issue unless like what happened you get a couple of V8 chooks do a kamikaze run in front of you...... bloody horn would have been handy right about then but luckily no harm no foul. While at the rally I went looking for the problemn and found where it lay after much playing around with fuses...

washed bike, running rough

just wondering if anyone else has this issue. Whenever i use the high pressure washer on the bike, it always runs roughly for a good 20-30kms. Where could the water be getting into? Electrics? Carbs?

Running rough

My 03 model GTR1000 is not idling as it should and is inclined to be a bit jerky though the gears. On the ulysses run to Townsville last year, I accidently put 8 ltrs of diesel in the tank. It ran as rough as guts till I was able to top the tank up at each succesive refuel, but still just doesn't run like it should. It still starts first go, every time and criuses just fine. GIVI TOP BOX

i am in the midst of purchasing a givi top box for my gtr-1000 and would like to know is there anything
that goes between the fixing plate and the actual bike , as the dealer i am purchasing the top box of seems to think there is.
with my old r-jays top box, that just has long bolts with spacers in between bike and rack.
any light on this subjuct would be muchly appreciated

hi, just doing a valve adjustment and in the manual it said to make sure that the knock pins are put into the rocker cover but I don't seem to have any. can anybody shead some light on this. I have seached all over the top of the head but have not found anything. regards kevin

Front Forks

I'm expiencing a feeling of heavyness in the front end and also what feels like a pogoing at speeds over 90kms, it a bit like riding on a road with lots of little bumps.
I currently run 15wt oil and a little air in the fork. How much air I cant say as have no way of measuring. Air is supplied via a pushbike hand pump.
A mate whom rode the bike felt it may need new springs and possible back to std weight fork oil, but he was surprised how easy the forks...

Leaking Tank

Hi everyone. I have a considerable fuel tank leak on the bottom left 'wing' at the rear of the tank(1994 GTR) with a small amount of paint bubbling on the outsde of the tank in the same area. The cost of a new tank is not really an option as yet and finding someone in the ACT to do repairs is proving difficult. There seem to be verious types of chemical cleaner/liner kits available but getting conflicting 'advice' re their reliability. Anyone out there experienced a similar...
